A Housing Choice Voucher, or HCV, is help with rent from the Greenville Housing Authority. To receive an HCV, you must first sign up for the Greenville Housing Authority's waiting list and meet the program requirements. If you are selected and approved, the voucher can help pay part of your rent at a home or apartment that accepts HCV vouchers.
A Project-Based Voucher, or PBV, is another rental assistance program, administered locally by the Greenville Housing Authority. The difference between the HCV and PBV is that the rental assistance is connected to a home at a specific property for a PBV. You must first apply through the property and meet the property's requirements. If you are eligible, the property manager sends your application to the Greenville Housing Authority for review and appraisal. If approved, the Housing Authority provides rental assistance for the PBV unit.
Area Median Income, or AMI, is a number that shows how much money people usually make in a certain area. AMI also takes into consideration the number of people in a household. AMI is used to help determine who may qualify for affordable housing programs. Depending on the program, households with income at or below a certain percentage of AMI may qualify.
Gross income is the total amount of income you receive before taxes and other deductions are taken out.
Household size is the number of people who will live in the home. This may include spouces, dependents, and other household members, depending on the program's requirements.
